Self-Directed IRAs
More than three trillion dollars of capital is held in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), but only 3% of that staggering sum is invested in real estate. There are many reasons to explain this phenomenon, but it may be mostly due to the fact that most people simply don’t think they can invest in real estate with their retirement funds.
But they can. With a self-directed IRA held by a custodian that allows real estate investments, individuals can invest in real estate and earn excellent returns that are tax-deferred (or even tax-free). The process is a little tricky, but relatively simple, and it allows you to take control of your retirement.
